The Power of Consistency

The Power of Consistency

You know what every kid needs in the morning? You guessed it, coffee! Maybe not, but that’s what I always looked forward to when I slept over my Gram’s house. I definitely enjoyed the sugar more than the actual coffee back then.?

Each morning, my Gram has a routine: brew a fresh pot of coffee, sit in the same spot on the couch, and watch her favorite shows. It’s not just the coffee she loves; it’s the ritual, the consistency, and warmth of that moment. She always uses the same set of mugs and same brand of coffee.

I finally asked why she’s? always stuck with the same brand when there’s so much more out there now and she said, “Why change what’s been good to me for years?”

At the time, those words didn’t really have an impact on me but as I began working in marketing, they took on a whole new meaning.

Building Trust Through Familiarity

This idea of consistency is something that came up in Liz Mosley ’s episode of the Be A Marketer podcast.

Liz talked about how a consistent brand isn’t just about visual elements, it’s also about ensuring that customers know exactly what to expect every time they interact with your business. This kind of dependability builds trust, which is a key component of strong branding and also helps convert leads into long-term customers.

She emphasized that a brand’s strength lies in delivering the same values, messages, and experience across all platforms, from your website to your social media and even your emails. It’s not about making noise or constantly chasing new trends; it’s about showing up the same way over and over again. That doesn’t mean consistency is rigid; you can still evolve and innovate, but the heart of your brand, the core values and message, should remain the same.

Just as my Gram’s simple routine creates a warm, dependable moment for her every morning, your brand’s consistency can create a similar sense of trust and loyalty with your customers. It should be about delivering what’s true to your brand, time and time again. This is how you build a brand that people know, like, and trust.

Think about the businesses or brands you follow. What keeps you coming back? It’s probably because of the consistency in the product or service and/or the reliability of the experience.

So, take a moment to reflect; Are you consistent in the message you’re sending out? What’s one consistent element in your brand that your customers have come to rely on? Let me know in the comments and tune into Liz's full episode below!
