7 个月The independent retailers in the gift industry are, like most independent retailers, in need of help and support. I hope the GA will lobby more of those who can have an effect on our high streets e.g. politicians, councils, and influencers. Of course the GA, quite rightly, wish to increase their membership but the key to this is how you make potential members feel, not what you say. Instead we have to listen to the likes of the BRC who only represent the largest, circa 200 retailers but do absolutely nothing for the independents. Almost all small retailers have had to operate on an unequal playing field for too long. Nowhere is this more evident than in the giftware industry who should take note of the toy industry where not many decades ago there was over 3000 small toy retailers whereas now there is a handful. I hope the GA grow. As an ex board member of the GA I know how passionate the organisation is. I also hope that someone has the balls (and the power) to stop the injustices around business rates, rents, city centre (and small town) parking and dare I say taxes on the large internet skimmers.
