The Power Of Community Behind The Book

Ahhh, one of my favorite images. Writers hunched over their notebooks or iPads madly scribbling away after being provided a prompt. The rawness and impromptu discoveries that are made in that moment, and shared with other writers. I see thoughts bubbles popping like hell fire, as waves of tears and laughter cascade around the room. These writers are book clients of mine, and this picture was from our year end 2021 event which was a dynamic all day exploration and celebration of authorship. Some were still working on their book, others were finished and published, but all of them unanimously had discovered writing their book opened up parts of them they had not seen or empowered before.

Many of the folks I work with once were part of the 88% who want to write a book but never will club. Then they decided they wanted to be part of the winners circle. They didn't want to be held back by the reasons people don't write. They found it was time to tell their story and share their knowledge and produce the dream end product - a published book. So they reached out to me and we got them writing.

I hold my end of the year client events because I want writers who did the work and made the commitment to be in the community of others who also put themselves out there. The power is palatable in the room. The support, ideas and influence off the charts. There is an A game happening here, and everyone is allowed to be themselves and unique because they filled out the entry card and won the prize... they wrote their book.

When you consider how you will approach writing a book, take stock in the community and system you are also signing up for. What are the successes of the group, the coach or the teacher? We all rise on the power of the group, and writing doesn't have to be singular. Look at the long game of how you will be supported after you finish writing and head into the publishing/marketing world.
