The Power of Community

COVENTRY HISTORY WALL: Map of Our Lands

The power of community, storytelling and history, along with aspirations for the future crosses all boundaries. This project is a testament to a wonderful team of people committed to creating a mural that weaves together the past, present and future. It is a tapestry of Coventry’s people, places and a nod to all those who came before. The illustrated maps serve as the foundation to present a rich and fun pictorial history of this town.

At Honorcraft, we believe in bringing these stories, supporting these efforts and creating something that never existed before. And we do it with our client and partners. I'd like to think that planting the seed and nurturing its growth, gives back the fruits of all those labors. It feeds the hunger to keep doing it again and creating the next endeavor.

As a team who engages with the client right from the start, we help generate the ideas and this sparks the kick-off. Honorcraft’s biggest reward is experiencing a project in totality. As Creative Director, it is one of the most rewarding parts of my day.On Friday, February 21, 2020 we shared intimately with the team the “soft reveal” of the space.

Col. John MacDonald with Paul St. Amand, Everett Hudson and Becky Fong Hughes

Thank you to the Coventry Police Department, our friends in the Coventry community and especially the belief in our work and ideas from our leader, Colonel John MacDonald.

Thank you to our talented Project Architect and Preservation Society historian, RI-born and raised, longtime Coventry resident and (fellow RISD alum), Paul St. Amand. Thank you to Everett Hudson and his family for image and town history contributions. This project would not have been possible without their time, help and passion.

We are blessed to be graced by the beautiful mapwork of Paul’s grandfather and mapmaker, George E. Matteson and have the opportunity to utilize his illustrations within our idea.George’s work and Paul’s vision are the foundation and fabric for this project. Its impact and expression will live well beyond all of us and in a tangible space that invites the community beyond its typical norms.

Thank you to all the staff and team members at Coventry Police that invited the Honorcraft team into their “home,” always welcoming and supporting us each step of the way.

We are so grateful and honored to participate.
