During my professional career journey, I would like to share one valuable experience on this topic ;

"In a pivotal conversation with senior technology and business leaders, I was passionately sharing an idea. Midway through my explanation, the most senior leader interrupted and asked, "Could you write that down and also present it visually?" At that moment, I felt a wave of awkwardness; I was unprepared for the request. However, this experience turned out to be a significant learning opportunity.

What I realized that day was that conveying ideas effectively requires more than just speaking. It demands the ability to clearly articulate thoughts in writing and to create visual representations that enhance understanding.

Each mode of communication—spoken, written, and visual—plays a vital role in ensuring that ideas resonate with the audience.

This incident underscored the importance of being versatile in communication skills. It's not just about having a good idea; it's about being able to present that idea in a way that others can grasp and appreciate fully."

So, to effectively communicate, share ideas, implement strategies, avoid ambiguity, and maintain an open mindset, the following steps do helps,

Clarity in Communication

  • Define objectives, clearly outline the purpose and goals.
  • Avoid jargons, complex terminology and use of simple language.
  • be concise, specific without ambiguous instructions and descriptions.

Effective Idea Sharing

  • To understand the audience, tailor the message to the knowledge level, interest and needs of the hour.
  • Clear short visual presentation, effective use of diagram, charts, dashboards and flow of presentation.
  • Audience/ participant engagement through Qs/As and example.
  • While maintain an open mindset, be receptive to feedback and encouraging diverse opinions.
  • Having reflections, an implementation plan and continuous improvement is the key to progress.
