We all find ourselves at times, intensely enraged, upset, and even violent. In those moments, we have a choice. Either to react defensively or to go within, and sit with ourselves and acknowledge what is the cause of our suffering. None of us are immune to violent emotions; they are part of being human. It's what we do with them that makes a difference. Unfortunately, too many times and too many of us, are making negative choices based on fear, anger, and insecurity.
Controlling your difficult emotions does not resolve them. Emotions need to be acknowledged, accepted, understood, and then within our own self, or in a therapeutic setting, be moved, released, and expressed. In this way, they can get integrated, and become a source of strength and wisdom, rather than a source of suffering and inner irritation. Educationally and culturally, we don't really receive the tools to do that, which leaves our emotions bottled up to fester and eventually explode in a destructive way.
I believe that since we cannot avoid suffering and difficult emotions, we should make the best of them. As far as I am concerned, there is nothing wrong with suffering or any emotions. These seem to be an integral part of living: they tenderize the soul and deepen our compassion; they inspire us to create, and, most importantly, they nudge us to transform.
We need to respect our suffering as much as we respect our desire for happiness. Suffering, if we move through it with compassion and awareness, is a great mentor. It is, in fact, our guide to happiness. As we listen attentively to our suffering, we discover what our soul is crying for. Our longings and needs tell us what’s most important to us. By listening closely, we can distinguish between addictive, compulsive cravings and true soul needs. Once we distinguish our needs, we can learn to nurture and guide them.
Self-knowledge, self-awareness, and true self-acceptance allow us to become who we truly are. Knowing our true essence and potential, gives us the ability to make the right choices for ourselves. Every soul is unique in its potential and desires. By respecting who we are and learning to make positive choices in accordance with our true heart desires, we carve a destiny that is deeply fulfilling. We then manifest a life of abundance and contribution that enriches not only our life, but the lives of others.
Let's clear our inner house on a daily basis and allow our emotions to move through and release themselves. Letting go again and again of whatever constricts, burdens, and limits us. Let's remove objects that we don't need, people and relationships that are not nurturing to us any longer, and concepts that are blocking of us from living with an open heart.
