The Power of China

I have been meaning to put pen to paper on this topic for a long time but in what was the pre Covid 19 world my thoughts probably would have gone unnoticed but now in the current world we live in they may get some reactions.

Is it me or have we become a world that is driven by the lowest price rules regardless of quality and single supplier dominance rules so the rich get richer but the the guys on the ground find it harder to survive. Yes I am talking about what China has done to the worlds economy where manufacturing costs have been driven down and down by their lower cost base compared to Western economies where laws exist around pay, working conditions, health and environmental impacts and as people push for lower costs they forget about the impact it does to the economy of the country they live in as cost is king.

What people have not seen is the wealth China has and is amassing for what appears to be world domination of economies via acquisition, they are the only country in the world at present who is buying up reserves of gold, oil etc when they are at rock bottom prices as they have become the richest nation on the planet, did they instigate Covid 19 to create this current world I will let you decide but I certainly think so and because they are now so powerful everybody is scared to hold them to account or at the very least investigate what actually happened.

Currently their is only one world leader standing up to China and backing his own country and whether you like Trump or not he is a business man looking after his business which is his country and the safeguarding of jobs for Americans and I strongly believe every economy should be doing the same. I know it is impossible not to import products from other countries as it is equally as important to export our products but there should be rules and limits to avoid almost everything coming from China and we should be stopping them from buying up companies, properties and land in our own country because before we know it China will have more of a say in what happens in Australia than we do.

It is a crazy situation that before Covid 19 you would go to the supermarket and the price of Australian prawns was over $30/KG and they are now around the $25/KG or less in some places, so to fill the local demand as all our prawns were sent to China we imported prawns from Indonesian fish farms which are of a lower quality to make up for the local demand, so what does this say it says that because China wants something they will buy it up at all cost so our high quality products were sent to China for premium rates which means any local produce is now over inflated and our own market is now flooded with poor quality and mass produced produce which I will not buy because it has not been ethically grown or sourced.

Another example of buying cheap is the building panels that come out of China, in some cases still with Asbestos in them, really in today's world this should not be happening but also what you do not get is products which are made to meet the Australian or any other local Standards and as such may drive down the build price but then costs local money (insurance money) to fix them when they have in some cases been tested or caught fire. The casing point is our own local Children's Hospital where building panels contained asbestos because the builder wanted to save money so they bought an untested and non-compliant product from China or panels which spread fire both found in Melbourne & London so is cheap always the best?

So what is the solution, the solution is to start manufacturing here back in Australia and get our industry back where local jobs are created for local people and built to local standards, yes it may cost more to deliver the end product but would you not pay 10-20% more for a product that you know is home delivered, helps the local economy but will probably be better quality to, I know I would but I am also a great believer of you pay for what you get.

We also need to limit what China can buy within our country and we must ensure our companies and land remain Australian or where this is not possible the controlling share majority is Australian.

No single country should have a stranglehold over another in the way China has over so many in the current world, if we all stood unified together against China we could make a difference but given politicians have no backbones we need more Trumps of this world to do it for us so and make a difference, buy Australian and create local jobs to safe guard our country.
