Power of A Cause

What dream is your company pursuing?

Martin Luther King Jnr had a dream and changed the world. He inspired millions of people to join his cause despite personal dangers. Is your business set up to advance a cause that changes the world?

Our cause is to restore our humanity because it is going extinct. If we don't restore our humanity, we will destroy one another and the world.

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs is a five-level motivational model that can be applied in the workplace to create the culture. It states the five levels of human needs. Each level has specific needs that eventually build upon to give meaning to the individual. Each need builds on the one below it. The needs are:

1. Physiological: People want to be paid for their work so they can take care of themselves.

2. Safety: this has to do with the work environment and also believing that their job is safe.

3. Love and belonging: People want to feel part of a tribe and connect with others.

4. Esteem: People want to know they matter

5. Self Actualization: People want to discover their purpose and know that they matter.

As good as this motivation model is, it leaves out a vital part of our humanity: the fact that humans can be inspired. Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs is management-oriented. ?Its speaks more about how to motivate your people to help you succeed rather than how to help your people succeed.

People can bypass all those other levels if they can feel cared for and inspired. When people are inspired, they make sacrifices. They are pursuing their higher self. When Martin Luther King Jr shared his dream, many joined him to advance his cause. They never cared about physiological needs or safety. The cause brought them together. All they desired is to actualize them.

That is what a cause does. When inspired, people only care about self-actualization. Inspired people are energized and enthusiastic about life. People can face lacks, challenges, and difficulties with a smile when they are inspired.

When employees are inspired people deliver their best performance and the organization will have few problems with salary demands, complaints and strife. Everyone will be about making the cause a reality. When your people align with your cause, they live from the higher self. They are connected to their passion. They work to express their gifts not impress others.

When you combine your cause and caring for your people, you create a powerful environment that your people always look forward to being in. They feel a positive energy that makes them want to do the impossible and make a difference. People become value creators when they are inspired.

When people are inspired, their performance will be impacted positively. You need your business to have a cause. It helps your people attain their need for meaning. People who are looking to advance a cause, research shows are happier, more contented, enjoy richer relationships with themselves and others, and are more resilient in the face of adversity than those who don’t have a cause.

With a cause, a business can tap into the expertise, ingenuity, gifts, and passion of its people. A cause will always challenge the status quo because it challenges your people to become the best version of themselves. It makes people larger because it is larger than life. It brings out the best in us. It makes people act in ways that are beyond personal concerns and direct personal gain.

What a cause does:

1. It elevates the human condition and experience

2. It connects people to their humanity

3. It focuses on service to humanity

4. It is purpose on wheels

5. It brings fulfillment

A company with a cause that is bigger than itself is a healing organization. Meaning is a vital component of happiness and well-being. People pursuing a cause experience less stress, anxiety, and depression.
