Weighing Risk to Embrace Reward: Make Bold Moves in Life
Life has a way of reminding us that time is our most precious resource. This life lesson on time came early when both my husband and I lost a parent suddenly and as I write this, my bonus mom is fighting for her life on chemo. It has shifted our entire life perspective.
The question shifted from, "What if it doesn't work?" but rather, "What if we never even try?". Tomorrow’s not promised.
So… like the old song goes, live like you're dying.
That shift led us to one of the biggest decisions of our lives.?
As the world locked down, my husband left his career in the sheriffs. We minimized life, packed up, and hit the road in a travel trailer and choosing adventure over stagnation. We didn't make the decision lightly—we carefully considered the risks of staying where we were versus the potential of what lay ahead and found:
? More time together as a family
? The rise of remote work opportunities
? A life and career path that aligned with our true values
We took the leap. And that calculated risk changed everything. It’s not the first nor was it the last. (Like buying a house you never stepped foot in in an area you’ve never visited and opening a new business, or two? A story for another day)
Here's a few pics from our travels including a sunset ride in New Orleans, Roof top sunset views at a vineyard we stayed at, DC, chasing waterfalls, UT offroading and TX swamplands!
How Does This Relate to Consulting?
Or to Adding Pharmacists in Practices?
Starting a consulting business is a risk, and adding a clinical pharmacist to your practice is a risk—but when it's calculated, it becomes your opportunity.
Too many pharmacists stay in burnout because they fear uncertainty and crave stability.
Too many physicians stay in burnout because they fear uncertainty and crave familiarity
They weigh the risk of leaving a stable (but draining) job but forget to weigh the cost of staying.?
They weigh the risk of changing a stable (but draining) workflow but forget to weigh the cost of complacency.?
The truth? Staying where you are could be the bigger gamble with your life or with your practice.?
You only get one life.
When you take a calculated risk to start your own consulting business, you gain:
? Freedom to create a career on your own terms
? Fulfillment by working with clients who need your expertise
? Financial growth with multiple income streams
How to Take Smart Risks in Life
1?? Assess Your Situation: What are the risks of things staying the same? What are the rewards of change?
2?? Minimize Uncertainty: Build a plan. A roadmap makes the leap less daunting.
3?? Leverage Opportunity: The world is shifting—healthcare, remote work, countless advances and the demand for pharmacist consultants supporting practices and beyond continues to grow.
4?? Start Small, Scale Up: Pharmacists can begin with one optimal client, one core offer, and grow from there.
Physicians can begin with a pharmacist support one day a week, one patient population, see where it goes from there.
Make the most of each and every day you are gift with.
Instead of looking back with regret, we look forward with excitement.
Taking the leap into something new might feel uncertain, but with the right strategy, it could be the best adventure of your life.
