The Power of Black Entrepreneurs – get to know Latricia Wright

This Black History Month, I’m lifting up the powerful voices of Black entrepreneurs. It’s no secret Black business owners face outsized challenges in running their businesses – that’s why I’m highlighting their stories of ingenuity and resilience. This week, meet Olive Seed’s CEO, Latricia Wright.
Latricia founded Olive Seed to educate people about the transformative power of nutrition. Her interest in natural health began at a young age after losing her father and grandmother to illness. As she began to study nutrition, she realized the powerful impact of our diet, and the capacity for healing that can occur with the right knowledge and tools for a lifestyle change. Her company, Olive Seed, focuses on wellness promotion and prevention. Latricia graduated from our very own Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program in Detroit, back in 2018.
1. Biggest surprise when starting your business
The amount of non-billable hours to grow was surprising. During the first year, I spent countless hours invoicing, writing proposals, creating marketing collateral, and following up on emails.
2. Mistake made and lesson learned
Laboring over my ideas and staying in the planning and research phase too long. I’ve learned to get out of my own way, get what I'm offering in front of my customers, and allow room for feedback and momentum.
3. Best piece of advice to an entrepreneur:
Don't underestimate your value! Follow your passion and stand in your own validation!
4. Fast forward, vision for your business in 2025:
For Olive Seed to be an international storehouse for all health and wellness needs.
5. Favorite product from Olive Seed:
Our tea! In the winter, I enjoy drinking White Rose or Echinacea Plus in the morning, Goji Green in the afternoon to boost antioxidants, and Sleep Easy in the evening to promote relaxation and sleep.
