Power BI September 2023 Feature Summary
What, no video?
Maybe I got to the blog a bit fast or maybe Microsoft have decided that they don’t need a video every month for Power BI and to include that same content within the Fabric update video – I suspect the latter.
Nevertheless, the latest Power BI Feature Summary blog was published yesterday and I don’t see one for Fabric yet.? This is the contents page from the Power BI September 2023 Feature Summary | Microsoft Power BI Blog | Microsoft Power BI I have highlighted things that interested me:
Mobile layout interactive canvas
If you regularly create portrait views then this will be important for you and make development much easier.? I don’t recommend creating portrait views generally, it is one more thing to maintain.? If you don’t create a portrait view, Power BI mobile will render your report in landscape mode and it will look the same as it looks on your monitor.? With mobile displays being so good now I think there is little justification for creating the extra work that portrait mode involves – happy to hear what others think about this though.
Edit your data model in the Power BI Service – Updates
This is one step closer to being able to do datasets in the Service from start to finish.? This is possible ?with Fabric in any case

Edit relationships in the properties pane (GA)
Good to see that this is now out of preview, this is a valuable improvement
Row-level security test as role improvements
Being able to choose a specific report and a specific person in order to test row level security will provide a much increased level of confidence that your RLS rules do indeed work as designed.? Nice.
Git integration
If you create Paginated reports, they are now supported as is checkout and switch branches.? There is also a tutorial that has been created to show how to use git with Deployment Pipelines.? It seems that source control is “getting there” in Power BI.
