Power BI Report Server New Version Preview Now Available

On June 12, Microsoft launched Power BI Report Server that introduced the ability to manage Power BI reports on-premises. Since it’s built on the SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) platform, Power BI Report Server includes support for paginated (RDL) reports, as well as all the enterprise reporting capabilities of SSRS. Power BI Report Server can be acquired in two ways – included when customers purchase Power BI Premium; and available separately subject to already owning SQL Server Enterprise Edition with active SA.

On August 26 we released a preview of the next version of Power BI Report Server. With this August 2017 preview, users can create Power BI reports in Power BI Desktop that connect to any data source, and publish their reports to Power BI Report Server. (Note - customers need to use a compatible Desktop version. See download link below).

Also included in this version of Power BI Report Server is the ability to view Excel workbooks in the report server web portal – thus giving business users a single location to publish and view their Microsoft BI content.

Tried to save a visualization created in Power BI desktop for the August preview version, it threw the following errors: We couldn't connect to the Analysis Services server. The server forcibly closed the connection. To connect as the user viewing the report, your organization must have configured Kerberos constrained delegation.
