The power of being vulnerable.

No matter how efficient, powerful or relentless you think you are, you are a human that needs to be listened and understood.
Most of us grew with the idea that being strong and tough will carry us through the hard paths of life, and most of the time that's true.
But the fear of talking with strangers, the embarrassment of crying or expressing our deep feelings, all that combined with the stress of being the number one in everything that we do? As Simon Sinek always says:
"Our jobs are killing us"
And is not the job itself, is how we are treated. The fear of the people not feeling safe in their jobs, that if they don't do exactly what they were told, they are going to get fired.
That kind of situation doesn't let anyone put their shields down and rises the tension of their body and mind, which can lead to get sick or develop a long-term disease.
So I want to talk about the other side of the coin, the grace and joy of feeling safe and in love of who you are as a person, with your highs and lows, the reason why everyone is unique and even if we have similar interests and behaviors we still bring something different to the table.
And for that, I'm going to talk about my biggest turning point. When I was going to graduate of college I didn't know what to do next, I thought that everything was going to keep going and the next step will show itself, I know, is not magic.
So that led to nowhere, I ended up having a pretty long time without the first opportunity as a professional, for many reasons, but mainly because I wasn't sure what I wanted. And that is something no one wants to hear especially a company looking for capable professionals.
And that turned me down, I knew exactly what I liked to do, but unfortunately, I didn't know any place where I could do that besides the university, so I tried to go abroad, to California, Germany or Japan, and take a masters degree and keep getting knowledge to be more prepared. But more prepared for what?
We suppose to work in the field what we studied right? I have known a lot of people that did it just for pressure or necessity, but not with the right intention of becoming that.
Well, moving forward, after trying and denying several opportunities I decided to go on my own, something that was also a dream but in the long-term, something that I wanted to do partnered with some friends and create new opportunities in our city that we didn't have the chance to have before.
The results of that are still in progress, and I have to say that is very pleasant to be doing what I wanted from the beginning, what the little Daniel from 1998 dreamed one day.
This may not be the most informative article to read and looks like a diary log, but that is what being vulnerable is about, feeling free to share what you think and take the best of that.
I hope you find this inspiring to tell your story too, I've been doing it for several years now and every time feels more natural and powerful to show what everyone can do when they feel safe in themselves and work with purpose.
I wish you all a great weekend :D

5 年Heyo, Using vulnerability as a way to "collect the best" of your writing reminds of Kaufman and Gregoire's discussion on incubation within their book, "Wired to Create." Although the authors mentioned prospective bias as a self-reflecting tool for dreaming about the future to plan your agenda, you seem to be using a retrospective lens, incubating your thoughts on your progress to guide your next steps. Out of curiosity, what are some of the new opportunities you've pursued in your city?
