The Power of Being Uncomfortable

Let me get you uncomfortable today because what makes everyone more excited than getting uncomfortable? No, really, I promise this is a good one- being uncomfortable actually equals growth in many cases.
In this case, specifically, I'm talking about the idea of mastery. Have you ever really considered it? Like, what are you truly a master at? I'm not just talking about your job here.
Mastery is about honing in on the finest details of an art while simultaneously having a macro view of the entire process.
It's like being in the micro and macro at the same time. Wild, right?
So, if that's what mastery is, can you truly say you are a master at anything? Personally, I find this to be a VERY tough question.
Sure, I'm good at hospitality.
Yes, I know commercial real estate.
Yep, I understand mindset and have business acumen.
And I enjoy learning about and using AI.
But what am I a MASTER of?

Here are three questions I think are worth asking yourself:
But here's the kicker: mastery doesn't necessarily need to be the goal. That being said, imagine what it could feel like to be THE master of something. Picture the 55-year-old jiu-jitsu master who doesn't worry about the 30-year-old stud. There's something satisfying about knowing you've honed a skill to such a degree that it's second nature.
I love thinking about this and find the discomfort to be a welcoming challenge. When we ponder topics like mastery, our brains start firing and freaking out, but that's okay. It's all part of the growth process.
What's our takeaway here? It's perfectly fine not to be a master at something. But by asking yourself these questions, you might discover that you do have a passion or a skill that you want to develop further. And who knows, maybe one day you'll look back and realize you've mastered it.
If I leave you with anything today, it's to stay uncomfortable. Embrace discomfort because it means you're pushing your boundaries and mastering new skills.
