The Power of Being Authentic and Connecting with Others With Robyn Addis
Welcome LinkedIn friends! Your weekly insight to grow your relationships and book of business.
I had the pleasure of interviewing Robyn Addis , an expert in community building. Relationships, vulnerability, and authenticity have so much power, and Robyn is sharing her insights into why communities that embrace these things can bring more success.
Mo asked Robyn:
“If we specifically think about building relationships, what are the things that you're doing both in your day to day life and at the events that are building these relationships across different levels, or functions, or roles or tenure or things like that?"
Robyn responded:
"So I have two things, in terms of very specific things. First, I am always myself. I am always 100% authentic,. A part of this journey and experience that led me to this place was really figuring out who that person is and really figuring out the type of person that I want to be.
Again, we don't have, you know, 12 hours to dive into that, but leading from that place of authenticity, people who know me, or people who know of me, know that I'm always myself, that I'm always transparent, and that I'm always authentic.
So they know what they can expect from me, and they know that they can trust me. I'm obviously very out there in the public sphere. I love it when I run into somebody and they say, “Gosh, I feel like I know you.” And my typical response is, “Oh, I'm just the person who doesn't shut up on LinkedIn.”
I'm always out there talking and sharing information and value-driven content. Talking to me in real life is just like reading my content or listening to a podcast with me. This is how I am in all of my interactions, so authenticity, I think, is a really important part of it.

Second, look for opportunities to create connections. I love connecting with people, whether through phone calls or emails. Multiple times a week, I get a, “Hey, I need an XYZ. Do you know somebody who does this?”
Or somebody can be talking in conversation and start uncovering this pain point. I'll tell them, “I actually think I know somebody or something that might solve that problem for you.” Even opening their eyes to the solution's existence is so joyful for me.
So finding ways to forge connections, whether, with people, products, services, whatever it is, that is just such a great way to build relationships because, again, 99% of the time, I'm not selling anything that I'm making money off of, to these people, but it is helping them do their jobs better and helping them be successful. Forging those connections helps strengthen my relationship at the same time.”
