The Power of Attitude

The Power of Attitude

As leaders, we have an incredible ability to shape our teams—and it all begins with how we shape ourselves. In my latest content, I'm diving into the core of what makes a difference in both personal and professional success: attitude.

A Quick Thought on Attitude:

“There is little difference in people, but that little difference makes a big difference. The little difference is attitude. The big difference is whether it is positive or negative.” — W. Clement Stone

What’s the Right Attitude for Leadership?

Attitude goes beyond just thinking positively—it directly impacts how we lead and how others respond. It’s something we control, and as leaders, it’s essential to recognize that our attitude has a ripple effect on our entire team. It’s about taking challenges in stride, silencing that inner negative voice, and looking for opportunities in every tough situation.

Leaders can’t really have ‘bad days.’ You will have bad moments, but you must adjust your attitude and quickly get back on the right track. Your people can’t have a bad day because you are having one. What happened with one employee at 9AM should not color the conversation you have with another employee at 10AM.

In my book Construction Leadership for A to Z, I explore more on how a positive mindset can move projects forward—even in the face of overwhelming obstacles. One of my favorite stories is about Mindy, a project manager at Faulconer Construction. She was assigned a complex, high-stress project as her first major leadership role, and rather than getting bogged down by challenges, her attitude carried her through to success. It's a perfect example of how leaders can thrive when they choose to see adversity as an opportunity.?

Man, this one gets me today Wally. I enjoy nothing more than talking about the power of gratitude, attitude & mindset. 10/10 I would gladly take an up-and-coming leader with no skills, but the right attitude, over all the skills we need, and a negative mindset.

I say, “we can’t always choose how we feel, but we can choose how we respond.” Most of the time we can make the choice to be happy(maybe somebody can do it all the time, it is most of the time for me!)

This is Leadership Truth! Thanks Wally

Spot on, Wally. And when you’re in the trenches, sometimes it’s hard to see when you’re getting off track.
