The Power of Asking for Help
Volunteers and residents come together for the Rising Tide Beautification Project

The Power of Asking for Help

It seems like a strange Achilles' heel, but I’ve always had a hard time asking for help. Even as I’ve taken on leadership roles and learned to delegate, that hesitation remains—worrying that asking for help feels like a one-sided exchange. But starting Rising Tide Residences with my partner, Nore Bluitt , has started breaking down that barrier and way of thinking.

Jumping into a new industry with a completely different way of working has made me hyper-aware of my knowledge gaps. One big challenge has been navigating sensitive emotional issues with our residents. While I’m empathetic and clear in communication, I often find myself outside of their lived experiences. In those moments, asking for help might mean stepping back to get input from others or having Nore take the lead.

Building Rising Tide I’m learning that enlisting others not only strengthens the business, but also creates opportunities for community engagement and growth. One beautiful example of this came to life this past Sunday during our Rising Tide Beautification Project. Armed with donated paint and supplies, volunteers and residents came together to transform a plain, ugly wall into something vibrant and welcoming.

Before

Seeing people—some of whom I had never met—jump in with no hesitation was incredible. Our residents took pride in improving the property they call home, and their energy was inspiring. And now we have a tangible symbol of what can happen when people collaborate and help one another.

Of course, there’s a line between asking for help and taking advantage of others. But when the exchange feels fair and desired, as I see in the community being forged at Rising Tide, it creates a strong foundation. Support like this is hopefully an indicator of community and healing. ?

Asking for help isn’t a burden. It‘s an invitation for others to contribute, connect, and create something meaningful.??

This phase is complete! Stay tuned for a mural on top...
