THE POWER OF AI key digital trends, shaping our future

In the ever-evolving tech world, staying updated on the latest trends is essential. Today, I’m spotlighting one of the most transformative forces: The Power of AI.

It is incredible to see the speed of change: we are in the 5th phase of the Industrial Revolution. This revolution is compressing in time, through accelerated innovation: steam engines (late 18th century) lasted ~100 years, electrification (late 19th century) ~50 years, telecommunications (early 20th century) ~40 years, the web (late 20th century) ~20 years, and now AI (21st century) is rapidly evolving within a decade.

Just two years ago, we had to convince people of AI's potential. Now, its impact is undeniable.

AI's journey already began in the 1950s with pioneers like Alan Turing. Early AI was rule-based, but today, advancements in deep learning and neural networks have propelled AI into new domains. For instance, ChatGPT leverages deep learning to contextually understand and respond to human language.

From virtual assistants like Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant to applications in customer service, predictive analytics, and quality control, AI is now integral to our lives. It’s revolutionizing recommendation systems, fraud detection, and personalized marketing.

?

Around the world, we can see good examples of companies using AI (still in majority machine learning models):

?? Amazon: Amazon leverages AI to enhance e-commerce and logistics. AI drives personalized product recommendations, analyzing user data to suggest tailored products, boosting customer satisfaction and sales. In fulfillment centers, AI-guided robots optimize inventory management and streamline order processing, improving efficiency and reducing costs.

?? Walmart: Walmart uses AI for predictive analytics and inventory management. By analyzing customer data, AI forecasts demand accurately, ensuring products are in stock while minimizing waste. AI-driven chatbots enhance customer service, providing instant assistance and resolving queries efficiently.

?? Coca-Cola: Coca-Cola utilizes AI to refine marketing strategies and product development. AI analyzes consumer behavior and market trends to create targeted advertising campaigns, increasing engagement and conversion rates. Additionally, AI helps develop new products by analyzing customer feedback and preferences. And Coke has started to use GenAI in creative marketing, even producing commercials and digital assets

?? Banking industry: Many banks use AI for fraud detection, predictive analytics, and customer personalization. AI systems analyze transaction data in real-time to detect suspicious activities, preventing fraud and safeguarding customer accounts. Predictive analytics offer clients tailored financial advice, enhancing service quality.

?? Procter & Gamble: Procter & Gamble integrates AI into supply chain management and marketing. AI-driven analytics optimize inventory levels, ensuring product availability and reducing excess. In marketing, AI personalizes campaigns, boosting brand loyalty and sales, and aiding in product innovation by identifying emerging trends.

?? HEINEKEN: HEINEKEN uses AI for Revenue Management, Commercial Mix Optimisation, Sales Execution, Logistics, and Manufacturing Optimisation. These are all Machine Learning based modesl, that use internal and external data sources to optimisse for pricing strategies and promotional offers, maximizing revenue. AI predicts demand in logistics, ensuring timely delivery and reducing costs. HEINEKEN has also started proofs of concept, using Generative AI for consumer insights, customer feedback, sentiment analysis and business intelligence.

Key Technologies that make AI possible

  • Deep Learning: Processes vast data through neural networks to identify patterns
  • Natural Language Processing (NLP): Enables human-AI communication (great example that many are using is the ChatGPT interface, to use natural language prompts
  • Computer Vision: Interprets visual information for applications like facial recognition
  • Edge Computing: Reduces latency by processing data closer to its source
  • Big Data Analytics: much more powerful compute power, help to analyse large datasets that enable AI products

AI is driving productivity as well as creating new market opportunities for many companies. It is pivotal for HEINEKEN’s journey to become the best-connected brewer.

I’d love to hear your thoughts! Share examples or suggest new trends ?

I would like to add NLP as one of the new applications of AI that is being used in many industries. By using pre-trained language models and programs that understand the context of communication, we can work much more efficiently.

Thanks for sharing a good point of view in leveraging AI Ronald den Elzen I can't wait to see how long it would take AGI to take off. There has been some great initiative leveraging Azure Cognitive Service AI prebuilt models to improve our PICOS score in HCAM OpCo. The project led by amazing individuals like Prathna CHUM. Heineken is well prepared for the fast-changing world to ensure we always strive and be ready to disrupt rather than setback to be disrupted.
