I am on the hunt for an accountability buddy (AB for short). Could it be you?
I have been thinking for a while that I would like an accountability buddy for a few reasons.
And it's not just about what I would get, I want to be that accountability buddy that brings a positive influence and provides an objective perspective as well as my expertise to help further my ABs business and get them closer to their own personal and business goals.
Why is accountability so important?
Accountability is a key part of achieving success, in my opinion. It helps to ensure that tasks are completed on time, and that you are held accountable when things don't go to plan. Accountability also promotes a sense of responsibility and ownership, which can help to improve performance and productivity, especially for solopreneurs and lone business owners.
Accountability encourages honesty and open communication with someone else, so you stop kidding yourself that you are being productive. I have been there, and that is the truth, it is easy to put things off that you don't enjoy and ultimately never get round to doing them. With the right AB, you build trust to share challenges and get help to overcome any hurdles holding you back. Ultimately, accountability is an essential element of success and will really help to move you and your business forward.

How to decide if someone would be a good AB
Deciding if someone would be a good accountability buddy depends on your individual needs and preferences. Here are a few tips to help you determine if someone would be a good fit:
Lastly, remember that it's important to find someone that you trust and can be honest with. They don't have to be perfect, but they do need to be someone that you can rely on to help you achieve your goals.
What makes a good AB in my eyes?
A good accountability buddy should be reliable, supportive, and communicative. They should be able to provide honest feedback and be open to hearing yours. It is important that they respect your boundaries and are willing to make an effort to keep the accountability relationship strong.
They should also have a good understanding of your goals and be able to provide helpful advice and guidance. Lastly, it is important that your accountability buddy is someone you can trust, who will always look out for your best interests.

2 年I’ve been thinking about this a lot this week Natalie Carthew . What are your thoughts on ex-clients becoming ABs? When I say ex I mean you’ve come to the end of a programme together for instance. I have people I’ve worked with but wonder if this would muddy the water? What’s your thoughts? How’s your search going? ????

2 年Great post, Natalie Carthew. And so true. It's been my experience that the vast majority of people need some kind of accountability and 1:1 has always proven to be the more effective. It's worth noting that, for some people, accountability makes the difference between them achieving their goals and not doing so, whereas for others, it simply gets them there more quickly - and the more seriously they take it, the more quickly they progress. Of course, others are just petrified of being held to account and avoid it at all costs. All kinds of excuses may be provided in an attempt to hide their fear - mainly from themselves (a not so healthy dose of denial) - but it's fear that gets in the way. I call it 'Interfearence' (and yes, the book's under way) ??????

2 年Having an accountability 'buddy' or working with someone within an accountability framework can be hugely beneficial to both people within it - it can be a lonely journey at times in the world of entrepreneurship and freelancing, and having support, a cheerleader, and a challenger can work wonders. It's something I directly offer to those I work with & it has a powerful impact all of its own. I am part of an accountability group which is great, but I think there are even more benefits for it on a more 1:1 system - I need to do more of that I think!
