Are you stuck in the snooze button cycle like I used to be? Well, let me tell you, reading Robin Sharma's 5 AM Club shook me awake and got me pondering on why I had this strange affinity for sleeping in, especially during those pre-pandemic years.
I couldn't help but trace it back to my childhood, where my dear mom, a night worker, instilled in us the habit of sleeping in. We were certified night owls, or so we thought. But let's be real, what important work did we have as kids? We simply stayed up way too late and paid the price with those groggy, late-morning wake-ups.
Now that I'm all grown up, I've come to a profound realization: I have a whole afterlife to sleep to my heart's content, as nature intended for us mere mortals. Sleep is undeniably necessary, but somewhere along the line, I decided that there are countless things I want to accomplish, and snoozing away precious time is simply wasteful. Sure, we need our beauty rest, but truth be told, you can be just as productive with a solid seven hours of sleep as you can with a luxurious ten.
And this brings me to the matter of FEAR.
You see, I labeled myself as someone who "likes to sleep in." That's what I told myself, and that's what I became. But let's be honest, how many of us create these self-imposed identities that are far from factual but simply figments of our imagination?

There are countless individuals who claim they don't have enough time to embark on something new, like embracing the early morning and fitting more into each day. Or, in my case for many years, that I wasn't a "morning person." But guess what? That narrative can be rewritten at any given moment. Imagine someone waved a cool million dollars in your face, challenging you to wake up at 5 AM every day for an entire year. Suddenly, the game changes, doesn't it? I bet you'd become the epitome of an early riser without a second thought.
The root cause behind many of our excuses lies in fear. Instead of acknowledging our fear of failure or making mistakes, it's far easier to claim we're short on time, isn't it? It's that primal fight-or-flight response kicking in, compelling us to take flight rather than confront our fears head-on.
I knew deep down that failing at the 5 AM challenge would make me uncomfortable. It was far simpler to resign myself to the belief that I'm not wired for mornings than to put in the effort to reclaim 2-3 precious hours of my life every single day. But you know what? Those 2 hours a day, compounded over the next 47 years, add a whopping 4 years back to my life! Four years to spend on whatever my heart desires, all because I chose temporary discomfort over fleeing from it.
So, my dear friend, what are you afraid of? What's holding you back from embracing your true potential and becoming who you were meant to be? It's time to shed those self-imposed limitations and step into the greatness that awaits you. The choice is yours, and the rewards are waiting to be claimed.
