Haiti was colonized by France. Haitians fought for and won their independence, Haitians were required to pay reparations to France which resulted in the decimation of the economy.
France also made trade agreements with other European nations and nations in the Americas to not trade with Haiti, thus the sugar plantations stopped operating and the Haitian economy has not recovered since independence.
Haiti paid reparations to France in excess of US$1.1 billion. France has never paid reparations to Haiti nor any other former French colony. France can afford to pay the reparations that facilitated its development, France just chooses not to.
Haiti needed the money and the trade agreements in order to develop. Recently, after every single natural disaster, France NEVER assists Haiti nor Haitians, aid is left to countries like America and organizations like the Red Cross.
The Red Cross
The Red Cross was given 500 MILLION in 2008 to help with building housing for over 100?000 families, by the end of 2017, only 6 houses had been built. The 500 million is gone.
Haiti was a successful colony and can still be successful however France has not assisted in any trade negotiations and never helps when there is a natural disaster.
Post-Colonial Justice
France is the nation that transported slaves to Haiti to benefit the French economy. And never made an effort to facilitate Haitian development. Haiti is a TINY island nation. France could facilitate development in less than 5 years, infrastructure, water, sanitation, medical facilities, schools, resuscitate the agricultural sector and tourism for a FRACTION of the French GDP.
Multinational French organizations could improve the quality of life for Haitians as they have done in Algeria and Morocco.
Haiti is not a dangerous country.
France is directly responsible for the poverty. France is also responsible for the instability and it is responsible for the lack of productivity.
