Potential of Nepali Children Threatened by Pandemic

I want to update my LinkedIn community on the effects of the second wave of Covid-19 that has migrated from India to Nepal. It's a sad reality that the pandemic has devastated underserved communities and it is going to take extra work to make sure the potential of this generation of Nepali children isn't lost.

This is a devastating set back for the Nepali economy, which was just beginning to rebound from the slow downs of 2020. Schools have shuttered across the country.

The students in our program at Kushi Ghar are disappointed to be taking classes online again, but they are undeterred by the setbacks of the pandemic. Their determination is awe-inspiring and we are so proud of their resilience. They have committed themselves to gardening, teaching each other dances, learning to drive scooters, cooking for each other and keeping their spirits up. We are particularly proud of Nari and Jasmati, both healthcare workers on the frontline, working tirelessly to help care for their community.

Our student-run, sister organization, HCC-Nepal is putting together a proposal to get help directly to the hardest hit areas of Nepal. While our staff and students over 18 have received their first doses of vaccine, the supply needed to stem the tide of the pandemic country-wide is not available. We are also working on getting workbooks and other school supplies to our students in the rural districts, where internet is spotty to non-existent.

If you are looking to make a difference, please join our HCC family today and support this important effort. The need has never been greater.
