The 2022 ICCA Conference has just taken place in Edinburgh. Here are the posts that I wrote over the five days that I was there.

Opening ceremony of?ICCA 2022 Edinburgh.
Wonderful music, and smiles and good company. But in a period of national mourning, and a conference postponed repeatedly because of a terrible pandemic, one can’t help but also remember the good friends we’ve lost along the way.
And, as the song goes on, in this bright future we can’t forget our past. So dry our tears and mingle with the good people we meet. Everything’s going to be alright.

On a day full of meaning, the first session I went to today at?ICCA 2022 Edinburgh?(after watching the Queen’s funeral) was all about key arbitration cases from the past, and the common thread running through the presentations was the promotion of the rule of law.
It’s fitting that a conference which is mostly a professional, networking event should focus on the rule of law. The connections between people are important but so are the higher ideals. Without these life would be, as a Scotsman once said (in a play written by an Englishman), but a walking shadow, a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

The third day of?ICCA 2022 Edinburgh?for me was all about old friends, and meeting people I haven’t seen in person in several years.
We are social animals, and this is a social activity, or as Maya Angelou put it, nobody, but nobody can make it out here alone.
Or more appropriately as the Scottish poet said, we’ll tak a cup o' kindness yet, for days of auld lang syne.

Farewell to?ICCA 2022 Edinburgh.
Of all the money that e'er I had
I spent it in good company
And all the harm I've ever done
Alas it was to none but me
And all I've done for want of wit
To mem'ry now I can't recall
So fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be to you all
