Homage to a great man and leader
Frederick I Robinson Jr.
JANUARY 20, 1958 – FEBRUARY 4, 2019
Sugar Land, Texas - Frederick Illingworth Robinson, Jr., loving husband, father and grandfather passed away at the age of 61 after a lengthy battle with ALS/IBM on February 4th, 2019.
Fred was born on January 20, 1958 in Marblehead, Massachusetts to Fred and C. Rebecca (Blodgett) Robinson. He graduated from Norwich University and was commissioned a second lieutenant and proudly served his country in the United States Army as an Armor Officer. While attending Norwich, Fred met Mary Beth Moynihan and proposed after a whirlwind courtship; they were married for 37 wonderful years and raised four children. Following his military service, Fred spent 25 years working for Iron Mountain in New York and Houston until stepping down as Executive Vice President of Energy Services. Fred served as an invaluable leader and was respected for his integrity in all areas of his life.
Fred enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his wife, their children, and eventually grandchildren; whether cheering on their favorite sports teams, grilling and swimming in the backyard, or gathering for a family meal each week. Becoming a grandfather in 2016 brought Fred immense joy and being Papa was one of his proudest titles. Aside from family, Fred’s interests included reviewing various wines, expanding his knowledge of American history, watching the Food Network, and passing his never ending wisdom on to his children.
Fred was preceded in death by his father, Frederick, Sr. just two weeks prior to his own. He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Beth, their four children and spouses- Lauren and Elvin Sotomayor, Frederick Brett and Sharon Robinson, Meghan and Jerry Hughes, Jr. and Emily and Denorrise Posey. Three grandchildren- Jerry Ray III and Hayden Hughes, Eden Sotomayor, his mother, Charlotte Rebecca Robinson, sister, Deborah Senig as well as many beloved extended family members and friends.
Fred was memorialized with his father at his home church in Massachusetts on February 10th.
A farewell celebration of Fred’s life will be held Sunday, March 3rd at Perry’s Steakhouse in Sugar Land. Those who knew and loved Fred are invited to join his family to raise a toast in his honor between 3-6pm during which time, brief remembrances and prayers will be shared.
The Robinson family is forever grateful for Fred’s compassionate medical team led by Dr. Ericka Simpson and caregivers who provided continuous love and support over the years. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions in Fred’s name for ALS/IBM and neuromuscular research may be made to:

5 年He was a great mentor to me and helped me to transition into the M&A space. I was the last person to work with him and it has changed how I view people with disabilities. Mary Beth would drive him to Royalton once or twice a week and he was always upbeat when he arrived, even with his depilating condition. I have noticed the word "mentor" in a lot of these comments. How unselfish of Fred to give some of his life for others throughout his career. I will miss him.
