the postcard
The postcard is perhaps my favorite form of communication.?
Sure, it has faults.
It’s slow.?
It’s short.?
It’s not really private.?
It’s a tiny bit braggadocious (hey look at me! I’m on vacation!)?
But it’s so incredibly thoughtful.?
And that is the exact type of communication that we are missing these days.?
~?
When somebody sends you a postcard, it’s intentional.??
They are on some grand adventure.?
And they took a few minutes out of their busy day, to say something.?
Something just to you.?
“Wish you were here!”
“Thinking of you!”?
“Miss you!?
You can imagine them spinning the ol’ postcard carousel and picking the right one.?
“We hiked this mountain!”?
“We swam across this lake!”
“We ate food the best meal ever right here!”?
They paid for the postcard.?
They hand-wrote it. Sloppy handwriting and all.?
They remembered your address.?
They bought a stamp. Found a mailbox.?
And mailed it.?
Just for you.?
And that means… you always read it.?
~?
Postcards have 100% deliverability.?
Postcards have 100% readability.
Postcards have 100% completion rate.?
Have you ever not read an entire postcard?
~
In an age of technology, we have unlimited posting. Unlimited sending. Zero friction. Zero cost.?
For postcards, we pay a cost to send a message. To one person. One time. For one reason.?
“Thinking of you”?
And it means so much more.?
~
Write somebody a postcard this summer.
I promise they will read it.?
But it will feel better to send it.?
