A Post-Pandemic Trend: The Rise of Summer and Winter Courses

As the founder of Crossover Education, I’ve always believed in the power of bridging educational gaps, particularly between China and the rest of the world. Over the years, our focus was mainly on providing international students with access to Chinese universities, helping them navigate the complexities of higher education in one of the world’s most rapidly growing educational environments. However, as global education trends shift, so must we.
Today, Crossover Education is evolving into something much broader. We’re no longer just about helping students access Chinese higher education. We are now focusing on providing international educational opportunities across China, Europe, and Latin America. This expansion reflects the changing landscape of global education, especially in the post-COVID era, where there’s a growing demand for summer and winter courses that offer immersive, face-to-face experiences.
The pandemic reshaped how students and educators viewed learning environments. As restrictions eased, there was a collective desire to re-experience the benefits of face-to-face education and, of course, travel the world. Yet, economic constraints and the increased competitiveness of European universities have pushed students to seek alternative ways to distinguish themselves. These new experiences enrich their academic profiles and help them pursue international educational ambitions, whether in Europe or at the increasingly prestigious Chinese universities.
Summer and winter courses have become the perfect solution. These programs offer a taste of international education in a variety of fields—language immersion, engineering workshops, ski training in the Alps, and much more. They allow students, particularly Chinese students, to experience life abroad without committing to a full degree. This trend is thriving and continues to grow. Based on my experience and current partnerships, I see that European universities and educational programs are keenly interested in the Chinese market.
Middle- and upper-class Chinese families actively seek these short-term international education opportunities. These programs provide valuable experience in foreign environments, giving students a competitive edge when applying for long-term programs like bachelor’s or master’s degrees at prestigious European institutions.
However, these programs cannot simply be transplanted from Europe to China. They must be adapted to meet the expectations, culture, and habits of Chinese students and their families. This is where Crossover Education steps in. Similarly, Chinese universities also offer these types of programs. For example, Beijing Foreign Studies University provides diverse courses for international students. But Chinese universities need the other side of the bridge too—an organization like Crossover Education that can adapt their content and offerings to other markets, attracting new students and opening doors for international opportunities. In other words, these programs require an international mindset and a deep understanding of the global educational landscape.
Marketing strategies, communication platforms, and the overall approach must be customized to resonate with Chinese and international students alike. Chinese social media platforms, specialized content, and how information is presented differ significantly from what works in the West.

This is why we position ourselves as the bridge between European and Chinese educational stakeholders. Our role is to help European institutions understand the nuances of the Chinese market and tailor their programs accordingly, ensuring successful student recruitment and engagement. We do the same for Chinese universities looking to attract international students.
While Europe and China remain core focus areas, I’ve also expanded our reach to develop international opportunities for students from Latin America, particularly Chile. Building on my experience with Les Elfes International and other educational partners, I’ve worked to establish relationships between Chilean schools and global institutions.
On October 21st, we will host a significant event at the W Hotel in Santiago, Chile. This event will bring together educational stakeholders from Chile and Europe, demonstrating that summer and winter courses are not just relevant for Chinese or European markets but for the global educational community. Establishing these relationships requires the right people—those who are dedicated to opening doors to new possibilities and opportunities.
At Crossover Education, we are committed to evolving with the global education landscape. The world is hungry for meaningful international experiences, and we are ready to facilitate these connections through summer courses, winter camps, or full-fledged degree programs.
As we grow, our mission remains the same: to be the bridge between educational opportunities and the students eager to seize them. Whether you’re in China, Europe, or Latin America, we’re here to guide you every step of the way.
