Post-Pandemic Opportunity: 13 Business Lessons from The Roaring 20s & Spanish Flu

Post-Pandemic Opportunity: 13 Business Lessons from The Roaring 20s & Spanish Flu

In short, the Roaring 20s are coming back, and this is going to be the greatest window of opportunity in your career. The above is a one our keynote that dives into the following topics:

In the book Create The Future, and as part of my work for our Trend Hunter Future Festival, my analysis of chaos and post-pandemic periods reveals that we don't just emerge from a pandemic by entering the New Normal OR returning to the past. Rather, business lessons from The Spanish Flu and Black Death teach us that we enter a new period of incremental chaos and change where consumers make up for last time. Let's call this period The New Roaring 20s.

In this sort of time period, competitors reveal new products and and we end up in a flux state of reprioritization where we must choose between sides in dozens of market tensions. We can use history, Trend Hunter's consumer insights, megatrends, and Trend Hunter's Patterns of Opportunity to predict the new opportunities for disruptive innovation, change and strategy.

In this keynote, Jeremy also shows that we are expecting an incremental period of chaos and change based on multiple frameworks:

- Trend Hunter's Chaos Framework (We Exit Crisis to Chaos)

- Historic Post-Pandemic Trends and Reprioritization (The Grand Reprioritization)

- Ray Dalio's Changing World Order Framework (China vs USA tensions)

- Howe-Strauss Generational Framework (Boomers vs. Millennials will clash)

- Trend Hunter's Pace of Change (Incremental Tech & AI will cause change)

In short, these frameworks all point to a period of incremental chaos, and generally much of this work shows that history repeats itself... not exactly, of course, but the innovation, change and strategic shifts tend to rhyme with what has happened in the past.

After the Spanish Flu, the trends and business opportunities matched what happened after the Black Death. Specifically, the Roaring 20s (and post-pandemic periods) are characterized by reprioritization of importance across many categories

CATEGORY ? 13 POST-PANDEMIC TRENDS = TENSIONS FOR 2022+

Awesome video! I really enjoyed the perspective and insights you've given on how things will change. There's a lot to anticipate for the future, but also some significant challenges ahead of us as we make these changes happen one step at a time!

I'm really enjoying this video - thanks for creating this. Things seem painful now, like any paradigm shift, but there's clearly a lot to look forward to.
