Post more content!
Tuesday 11/19/19...
I publish a lot of content on LinkedIn. One of these articles every morning and a video to back it up. I probably make it look easy, but it's taken me several years to get to this point.
The hardest part is just getting started. It can be nerve-wracking to figure out what you should or should not say. It's easy to get caught up in all the possibilities and 'what if' type scenarios.
Ignore it all and just post what's on your mind. It's a learning process, you're going to get better, it takes time to find your voice. If you make a mistake, no big deal, you're only human and people will understand.
I talk to a lot of people who are holding themselves back and often don't know why. It's simply fear. Fear of what others will think, or that they'll get judged. Fear that they may lose a client.
But people want the truth. They're attracted to people who are authentic and vulnerable because they're sick of all the manufactured bullshit that exists in this world. And honestly, if you lose a client for being who you truly are, you probably shouldn't be working with them in the first place.
Just post what's on your mind, be yourself, and you'll attract like-minded people.
Now, video is a whole other story. It took me years to get comfortable on camera and I STILL have a long way to go. Hitting that little red button is scary, so do some practice runs.
Just start recording yourself with zero intention of posting it. It takes a lot of pressure off of the situation. Eventually, it gets easier, but the same as above - you've got to stop caring what others think.
It's mostly in your head. Everyone is too caught up in their own stuff to worry about you. You spend a lot more time thinking about it than they do!
I say this all because it's incredible how posting content can change your life and your business. I've done it for myself and I don't want others to take as long as I did to commit. Even today, I struggle to write this very post. But I push through knowing that some content will be better than others. As long as I keep putting it out there, I will continue to get better!

5 年Great encouragement, Dan Mott. I love your suggestion to record a video without the intention to post to take the pressure of yourself. I know I have a tendency to overthink, so I can use this strategy next time I hit a wall.
