Interview by Apostolos Hatzimeletiou

Christophe, can you tell us something more about yourself ?
I started my carrier as a stylist, but my real talent is drawing. I started to work as illustrator for fashion and beauty magazines and some famous edition houses 10 years ago. I have been published in England, France, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Austria, Russia, etc…

Most people know you as the post-it guy, how did that happen?
The "Sticker Note Portrait" project happen by hazard 14 months ago. That day, I had no sheet of paper and a furious envy to draw. As everyone, I have Sticker Note on my desk, so I started to draw portraits on it and posted on my Facebook wall. The reaction was so enthusiastic that I decide to draw a portrait for the birthday of one of my friend per day and post it as a gift our Facebook walls. Since that moment I made 1 portrait per day.

How do people that you post-it their face react when they see your art?

That buzz made my contact list growing up, every day I met new people on social network and the return on my artwork has always be nice. People from everywhere in the world wishes to have a “Post It Portrait” but I can’t unfortunately please everyone. The deal and concept is 1 portrait per day as a gift, not more, that is why people form everywhere are commissioning portrait nowadays.

What mostly attracts you in your work? Which face is a great face for post-it drawings?

Since I started, I must have drawn something like 450 portraits as free gifts… I give a lot everyday as a ritual and it is true that my followers are giving me back a lot in return with them joy and enthusiasm. I rediscover the kindness of people with that experience. I’m having a lot of pleasure to draw people with great expression and grimacing faces, that tells a story and make the portraits interesting. Sometimes, the look really alive and that makes me happy.

You live in Berlin, where there is plenty of art to get inspiration from. Did that help you with your creativity?
I didn’t live in Berlin but the city I love above all is Paris. I love to be there and smell the creativity, the art history and fashion past, the refinement and beauty. There is something unique and very inspiring in the elegance and attitude of some people in that city.

If someone checks your illustration art and your post-it art it's like two different personalities. In your illustration you are using a glamorous, elegant and fashion like attitude, and in your post-it inspiration it's like you are trying to get the faces to say a small story. Do you feel that too?
By the concept of birthday celebration of my friends on social network, I draw most of the time "normal people". The fact is that I’m looking about my inspiration in the pictures of them wall. I found them really inspiring like some sleeping jewels. They just need to be transcribing with a certain eye. I try to reveal the soul and iniquity of the models. Everyone is special, it depends how you show it. The "Post-It Portrait Project" is a revolution in my life because I use to work for fashion and illustrated elegant, glamorous and girly women in feminine press… I made a complete changing of direction with my new project. You will notice that a lot of my friends are bearded and sexy man.  And I’m always surprised by the result of the portraits, especially by the fact that like 1 year ago, due to my long experience about drawing ladies, I was unable to draw man ;-) I try to draw the soul of the people and I have the feeling that by the regularity of the daily drawing process I'm really progressing.

What are your next steps now?
My new goal now is to show my Artwork outside of the social network. An exhibition and a book are in project
