Post Election Relationships - The Power of Emotional Intelligence to Heal

Interested in keeping your relationships intact with those who voted differently? Learn why Donald Trump supporters need to refrain from celebrating, gloating, or teasing. For many this election was very personal and the sense of loss is devastating. We discuss how we can be supportive of one another going forward.

Interested in keeping your relationships intact with those who voted differently? Learn why Donald Trump supporters need to refrain from celebrating, gloating, or teasing. For many this election was very personal and the sense of loss is devastating. We discuss how we can be supportive of one another going forward.

My radio show goes over what happened and why, more importantly how to help those people who are feeling upset, shocked and afraid.

People who voted for Secretary Clinton may be experiencing a period of mourning. Those marching in the streets, acting out, and those sitting quietly at home wondering how did this happen, are all reacting to an enormous powerful loss. The democratic party, liberals, progressives and others did not just lose an election, they feel like a dream has been shattered. The chance to elect a woman is over, at least at this time.

In my radio show I talk about mourning, a time for grieving, and how we should be helpful to those we care about who are feeling this way.

Three important points:

  1. Mourning and grieving ARE appropriate responses to significant loss. Let's not pretend and tell people "Don't worry, everything is going to be okay."  Things are not okay. We are polarized as a country. We have multiple problems and they are going to take time, innovation, collaboration, bi-partisanship to work through our issues. We need a healer to lead us and for many, it seems counter-intuitive that he could be the one. However, I encourage everyone to listen to the speeches of Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton that were outstanding. President-elect Trump wants to "Make America Great Again" and Secretary Clinton was right when she said "We are Stronger Together."
  2. We will have a woman president. The question is not if, it is when. With all the women leaders that are rising in business, government and in other organizations and institutions, we will oned day all celebrate our first woman president.
  3. If you are not happy with the election results, one benefit I have only heard, is that there are many more people who wish to become more involved in our democratic process, and that is a good thing!
