This post will date very quickly...
I've had two electronic trials recently - one in the County Court, the other in the Supreme Court. The time saving in the Courtroom is fantastic - everyone seeing the same document at the same time, almost instant upload of documents to an electronic Court book (replacing paper) and common document referencing throughout pleadings and affidavits.
However, there was one completely new element in one trial - the ability to get live transcript from Court to my iPad and iPhone, making the live transcript available anywhere. All I had to do was download the app below, buy a daily licence from Epiq Australia, and live transcript was up and running. With desktop email running in Court as well, it meant that the Court team could get support from the office team instantly - no need to run to and from Court.
It won't be long before this type of accessibility is the norm, not the exception. I am sure this post will date very quickly! For the moment, however, I am appreciating this and other changes which are removing the inefficiencies and reducing the cost of contested disputes.
Feel free to contact me if you need a hand with getting across what an electronic trial means for you as a lawyer - it's hard to know where to start, and some of it is quite challenging to absorb.
I can't speak more highly of the service given by the team at NuLegal (just been taken over by Epiq Global). Nick Werneman and Alex Thompson are exceptional.
