The lockdown is being lifted, and the education sector is eying the classroom comeback more eagerly than perhaps any other sector. However, some of the dramatic changes we’ve seen now are here to stay.
Indeed, over 1.3 Billion students have been out of the classroom for past several months now. We cannot, however, overrule the fact that amid that jostle for settlement with e-learning platforms and change of environment, there have been several experiences discovered, gained, explored and appreciated both by students and academicians.
Now that many of us have adapted to the e-learning methodology, and we’ve seen the advantages such as cost saving, higher retention, faster turnaround etc, can we expect to say this:
“EdTech set to replace the conventional learning soon”
Perhaps it may be a bit early. However, we cannot either overlook the rave success of concepts such automated video tutoring and game-based learning, upskilling and re-skilling trends among professionals, and some unconventional demands from segments never thought before. For instance, many homemakers are seeking to learn online marketing or even other hardcore skills through e-learning.
Many parents are enrolling their 10 and 12 year old children in coding courses.
Overall, the shift in approaches and new trends are slowly overpowering the traditional ones such as rote learning.
Evidently, digital learning in the recent past has challenged both learners and tutors to step out of their comfort zones and employ more critical thinking in carrying out the learning.
What To Expect Ahead?
E-learning has proven its success mainly in terms of improving retention rates from 25% to 60%, Besides just for mainstream education systems, EdTech is turning out highly promising for the Corporate learning needs- through sales, product training, recruitments conferences, workshops, as well.
The industry, overall, is expected to rise exponentially in the next five years – worldwide. It isn’t just the growth of learners.
There is a rise in employability and employment rates in the education sector. Whitehat Jr. for instance, has employed over 6000 home-based tutors, recently.
Besides, several mainstream institutions have added alternative online courses and they’re on a lookout for virtual tutors prominently.
eLearning To Be Uniterrupted for Homeworks
Even as most institutions have their eyeballs centered at restoring the classroom sessions, they are silently making space for revising the existing and bringing up a hybrid education model in next academic sessions.
An instant effect can be expected in the form of the homework being sent. The tutorial videos will play an important role in helping students and caregivers comprehend homework instructions.
Some of the other important areas where EdTech can continue to appear now—quite permanently, could be the submissions around competition records/entries, feedback sharing, and parent-teacher meetings etc.
EdTech As A Sector Grows Exponentially
As the UNESCO stats clearly indicate the jolt to the education sector – experienced during the COVID times, the road to recovery would demand several new applications, tools and systems to aid education.
Learning Management Systems
Learning Management Systems will make it to the mainstream for tutors to create, deliver and assess the lessons.
Add-On Courses
Besides the institution-based education, there will likely be an increase in the onboarding for elective remote learning courses. Since parents and caregivers stand more aware on the availability of such additional learning courses, they will be more willing to enroll their children for add-on e-learning.
Afterschool Learning
Slow learners who need additional attention or out of class learning would better be enrolled through e-learning for afterschool teaching and practice.
AR-Based Learning
Children will demand more for AR based learning. This is a stage where education and entertainment meet.
Summing Up
EdTech was one of the slowest growing industries until the last year. Covid changed that picture upside down. The industry is set to grow in leaps in the next five years – bringing a transformation rarely imagined before.
