Many claimed that the post corona world has made the world a fair playground. We all witnessed that corona had also been a blessing in disguise in many areas like environmental pollution and natural resources etc. Corona, no doubt, has revealed many positive aspects of life and came with multiple lessons for humanity. At the same time, the world has become all the more unfair in many aspects for many sections of society. The gap between the Haves and Have not’s of society have started revealing its face.
Here are the seven sections of society for which the post corona world has now become more unfair
1. The Startups – Those who had quit their well-paying jobs for fulfilling their entrepreneurship ambitions, their fate is hanging in the air now. Most of them will shut down its shutters by the time the pandemic will end. The angel investors have suddenly vanished and mustering the investments is a distant dream for a while. By the time, the crisis would be over these brilliant ideas will die a natural death due to lack of funds.
2. The Freelancers- Those who had decided to be their own boss and create at their own speed are staring at a gloomy future. The virus has ripped off the economy of its opportunities. The group of creative souls is not in space to think of their own luxury and will bow to the market demand, which might compromise their creative streak. They have anyway been without any opportunity during this lockdown period unlike the desk professionals having the privilege of work from home and getting paid.
3. The Children- Those who are privileged to have a good internet connection and a PC will learn via online classes across the globe, but mind it 70 percent of the women and children across the globe are offline and do not have the privilege of digital literacy. They will not be entitled to their basic right to education. There is a clear disparity between the haves and have not’s now.
4. Domestic Violence and Abuse - The National Commission of Women and Childline has registered a steep hike in the cases of domestic violence and abuse among children and women. The mental, physical, financial and emotional abuse has left them all the more vulnerable at the hand of the abuser. The UN Women survey reveals that 40 percent of the women don’t complain about the abuse to anyone, which now has become all the more grave. The opening of the alcohol industry by the government has made the situation more grave.
5. The Old- The older people who are most vulnerable to this virus are now in much more insecure. Many across the world, who were quarantined due to corona died due to loneliness and compassion. This section of the state doesn’t know the meaning of social distancing and socializing was a way of living for them. They are not technologically enabled to entertain and keep them busy. Not all have the hobby of reading, writing, and painting, etc. The lack of resources on top of them makes the condition worse for this section of society.
6. The Mentally Vulnerable-Those reeling under depression and other mental illness are now at the receiving end. There is a mental health crisis staring at the world due to loneliness. The abnormalities like PTSD, depression, substance abuse have increased exponentially along with the cases of suicides. The mental health department is at its toes.
7. The Daily Wage Workers- Though the government has infused huge amounts of funds to revive the economy, the daily wage workers have been the biggest loser in this pandemic. We all witnessed the cases of suicide, death due to starvation, and traveling all the way home due to the non-availability of surviving sources. The gap between the poor and the rich has widened like never before.
