Post-Concussion Syndrome
Medicortex Finland Oyj
Developing a diagnostic kit to detect concussion and mild traumatic brain injury.
Post-concussion syndrome (PCS) is a medical problem that persists after a mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). PCS can be worse for people with a history of head injuries. Also, women and elderly seem to be particularly susceptible to PCS.
Symptoms of PCS are usually vague and non-specific. These include headache, dizziness, memory difficulties, and sleeping problems. In most cases, symptoms disappear after a few days to weeks, but may sometimes last for several months or longer.
Since the symptoms are non-specific, diagnosing PCS can be difficult. There is no definitive diagnostic test for the syndrome, so the diagnosis is mainly based on head injury report and the consequent symptoms described. Doctor may also perform a physical examination, such as a test of co-ordination and muscle reflection.
Medicortex Finland Plc is developing a rapid, easy-to-use diagnostic test for detection of mTBI. To learn more, please visit www.medicortex.fi.
