Reflections from a 1st-year Exam Development Board member:
Q: What is your name, title, and board affiliation?
A: My name is Pedro Marques Gaspar I am a Manager at PwC in Madrid, and I currently sit in the CIPP/E Exam Development Board.
Q. What surprised you the most as a new member of the EDB?
A. I was honestly (and pleasantly) surprised to be involved in such depth in all stages of the strategic development and evolution of the CIPP/E certification. To put it differently, since my first day as a member of the EDB, I felt that I was able to truly “put my grain of sand” in what I consider to be one of the most important certifications from privacy pros worldwide.

Q. What do you think was the greatest accomplishment of the EDB?
A. The EDB plays a key role in ensuring that the IAPP certifications and, more notably, the CIPP/E, are kept up to date in a world where global standards regarding privacy and data protection evolve on an almost weekly basis and it creates a unique forum from professionals from all over the world to discuss and hear different views on a myriad of novel topics.
Q. What made you feel the most valued as an EDB member?
A. THE EDB offered me a unique opportunity to engage with amazing professionals from all over the world and discuss not only existing laws and guidelines but also trends and upcoming changes in the privacy legal and regulatory framework. The EDB and its members made me feel from moment one that my voice is truly valued when evaluating possible amendments to the CIPP/E exam and assessing what are the hot topics that are key for privacy professionals.
Q. What are your hopes for the EBD heading into another development year?
A. I hope (and believe) that the EBP will continue to play a key role in keeping the CIPP/E up to date in a moment where topics such as Artificial Intelligence, international transfers and new regulatory guidelines are truly revolutionizing the legal and regulatory landscape of privacy and data protection at an EU level.
