Post 1: Awkward Beginnings
Book 1: The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness
Score: 4/10
And we’re off!
Book 1 done, and boy is this an awkward review.?
It was a recommendation from a colleague who said, “You’ll love it!” (Or at least, I think they did - I can’t actually remember.) Sorry C, I didn't love it, I didn’t love it at all.?
The Review:
This book has no redeeming features for me. The characters were forgettable. The writing style was jarring. The plot? Sub-par. And honestly, it was just boring.
I did feel a flicker of excitement when the fantastical elements started to surface, but then they were swept away down river. A real shame, because the world had sparks of greatness.
Sadly, Book 1 didn’t cut it (yes, stupid pun), but hopefully Book 2 will be out of this world (yes, another stupid pun)
Book 2 is The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet, by Becky Chambers. I bought it for the title alone (because judging books by titles is way classier than judging them by covers).?
If you’re hunting for your next read, I’ve got a list of over 250 books I’ve read recently - some with quick notes to help you decide.

If I had to give away all but one of my (many) books on metabolic health, this is the one I'd keep. It explains so well how we function on a cellular level (and options for optimising that), that it gives great understanding about not just brain but whole body functioning, while specifically illuminating the vast frontier of medical knowledge which has lanquished in relative darkness so long, being mental health.
