Possible | Introducing Riffs

We’ve kicked off our latest season of Possible! We started with my friend, 微软 CTO Kevin Scott , and we’ve got some sharp, inspiring, bold thinkers, leaders, and builders lined up.?

Between conversations with guests, Possible will be releasing shorter episodes, in which Aria Finger will ask me a few questions—ones that tease out my latest thoughts on AI, tech, and the future, as well as themes Aria and I are still mulling over from recent Possible episodes.?

We’re calling these shorter episodes “Riffs.” Many of you may know that I have extremely limited musical talent—and need heavy intervention from generative AI to produce anything even resembling jazz, so the definition of riffs I’m working toward is:?

Riff /rif/ [noun]

1. a rapid, energetic, often improvised verbal outpouring
2. a distinct variation?
3. a succinct usually witty comment

These Riffs are an experiment and will evolve. Mostly, we are trying them as a response to interest from many of you for more of my takes on some of the very questions and themes Aria and I have covered with guests in our conversations on Possible.?

So, in this inaugural Possible Riff, I recount the story of a milestone GPT-4 demo at Bill Gates ’ house—and share what series of achievements by AI would most impress and excite me next.?

Aria also asked me about the investment in technology and AI that I’d like to see be made at the domestic and international level. Lastly, I address the skepticism people have about AI—and how I’d recommend redirecting that skepticism to get a better outcome for all.?
