Is It Possible to Improve Working Conditions Through Truth?

Is It Possible to Improve Working Conditions Through Truth?

The way we do business today, is for many melancholy and broken. Our careers and work more unhappy, less buzz, less stimulant, becoming ever more devoid of joy. Empty of laughter. I think we all know this to be, speaking very generally, true.

LinkedIn itself is just a mirror of corporate life and business. We don't have to look far to find and feel the frustration and the ire in some. Bubbles of dissatisfaction just under the surface, bursting with irritation when they erupt. Oh, there is also real aggression, fear and insecurities apparent here too. It is manifestly so. I'm not saying it's universal, but enough negative energy to be noteworthy.

Let me tell you the truth, please listen and heed my recent experience. It is perfectly possible to have a career, a job or a task which fills you with giggles and glee. It is perfectly plausible that you can derive spectacular pleasure from your life's mission. This is real and the evidence is here and around you. It is the verifiable fact that with the right teams of people you can resonate. You too can find colleagues and clients who mutually amplify. Oh yes, joy  in your work life and fun while making lots of money too. It's not a dream, it's not a fantasy. It is simply what you deserve for being you.

How do we change? How do we transition from the gloom of work to the bright sunlight of gainful employment? Why it's very simple of course, don't we just have to be true? Let's start by making a list and be privately true to ourselves. Write down the emotions and feelings which surface when we think about our work day. Associate with each task the emotional response which is primary and visceral. Perhaps do the same for each customer and colleague. This will help us to identify where our work works or where our work wrecks. Perhaps it is worth digging deeper into the whys and wherefores of each case too.

However, where things are bad or make us sad, especially when our lists are unremittingly so, perhaps we should societally move towards being always true to our leaders too? Wouldn't it be great if the normal behavior when work is not a source of productive pleasure, we are encouraged to do this:

Email a message or call on the phone, if brave even going knocking on doors. Take our lists to our boss and say "hey there big boss of me, I'm really not happy with how things are, so as you're my Leader, its time to step up to the plate and be The Man [for it is almost invariably so]. Here is what my day looks like. I'm not happy you see, so do your duty of care and help me thrive for the company. Find me the team in which I can resonate, amplify and grow. Make me fulfilled with laughter and glee and my asset value to you will also, meaning much more profit for you too."

One word of warning. Be careful if considering implementing this when thing are still very wrong. This system is more than capable of crushing those who want to be happier, destroying those who just wanted to enjoy working for The Man.

But here is my Gift.

For this post is my exceedingly sly and cunning plan.

Send the link of this post of mine to your own Glorious Leader and say:

"Hey Dude, have you seen what this eccentric Brit called Gary Sharpe has written on LinkedIn? Now, Boss, I know you're not happy and I think what he's said applies to you? So I thought I'd suggest you might like to heed his thought and take your case to Company HQ".

And with this wheels are put in motion. The slow progress begins to accelerate. This train of thought starts to pick up pace.

Because with these Words of Power we sow the disruptive seeds of doubt in the entire rotten edifice. I hereby cast this spell which gently disturbs the foundations of the House of Cards.

And this opening move is just my laying down of the lowest value card in my hand on this table.

Bluffing? Don't you know who I am becoming? Do you think you can beat emotional intelligence when filled to the brim with giggles and glee?

Hi Gary. The system/companies crush not the innovative but the rebels i believe. Truly innovative ones thrives. As you said there is hierarchy in most organisations and that is the reason for the crushing force. But that is only for rebels! In IT I am aware there is copy-left and copy-right. The copy-left are people who work for free softwares or open softwares, they have no hierarchy though. And then there is copy-right or proprietary software where we have hierarchy. But IT i am aware a young industry when compared to many industries out there doing business.

Cheers Gary, please note my opinion comes from my own previous experience!! Its cost me a few times (self determination!!) lucky for me I later discover people like you who endlessly add to my repertoire with thought provoking posts that cause me to reflect and think. I know I'm all the better for it. Education is a life long experience/ endeavour and I'm never not hungry for learning from myself (experience) and others! I also believe that's what posts are for, sharing and learning from one another, I get and give with equal earnest. Don't stop! Cheers, love your work.

So long as such initiatives are rooted in the doctrine of transparency. Then it shouldn't be a train smash!
