A BROOKLYN SAGA ~ Stories From the Stoop

Genre

HISTORICAL FICTION, ACTION, DRAMA, RELIGION

Brief

This book tells the story of Angelina Carpello, whose biography entangles with the story of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, in the 1950s, 1960s, and ’70s. Its delightful background involves immigrant families and the struggles that seem to be far lost in the neighborhood today.

Overall Rating: EXCELLENT

Authors Writing Style: EXCELLENT

Characterization: EXCELLENT

Commerciality: GOOD

Franchise Potential: GOOD

Pace: GOOD

Premise: EXCELLENT

Structure: GOOD

Theme: EXCELLENT

Accuracy of Book Profile: It is accurate.

Draw of Story: What immediately drew me into this story was how it so differs from others set in New York City. Far from the glamour and the ‘cool’ atmosphere surrounding New Yorker narratives, this one goes to the neighborhood's roots: immigration struggles, crime, violence, and the vivacity and cultural richness of early Brooklyn.

Possible Drawbacks: Nothing made me want to put the book down. It is dynamic and easy to read.

Primary Hook of Story: I would watch this movie because the theme and premise are not commonly explored in narratives, and Brooklyn is a famous neighborhood worldwide. Few people know how it was decades ago, a type of Gangs of New York for the 20th century.

Fanbase Potential: Possibly a large fanbase because the characters are charismatic, and the themes – gangs, mafia, and Italian immigration in New York, through the perspective of a girl coming of age – are sure to interest new generations.

Awards Potential: This adaptation has awards potential because it is a period movie, as such, requiring great work from costumes, scenarios, and actors.

Envisioned Budget: LARGE BUDGET

Similar Films/TV Series: GANGS OF NEW YORK

What’s New About the Story: When the author recalls Angie's life and the neighborhood she grew up in, even violent passages, the narrative reaches an honest tone that maintains and captures the vivacity, joy, and cultural connections among the people of the time and place.

Lead Characters:

Angelina is an obedient, strong young woman close to her family. She is charismatic, loving, and vivacious with a hint of naive - a great lead for this story.

Uniqueness of Story: It is a rare gem.

Possible Formats: Film: Studio, Indie; Streaming TV Series: Network, Cable, Limited Run / Mini-Series, Streaming

Analyst Recommendation: RECOMMEND

Justification: I recommend this story, especially as a film adaptation, because it is witty and fun with an interesting story arc and, of course, a great protagonist.

Currently seeking agent representation and/or film production officials. This story has STRONG box-office potential.
