Possible | Daphne Koller on drug discovery and AI

Just 15 years ago, breast cancer was often considered—and treated as—one disease. As technology rapidly advances our understanding of biology and illness, there's an extraordinary opportunity to improve the efficacy of treatments. As Daphne Koller explains in her conversation with me and Aria Finger about using AI and machine learning to revolutionize drug discovery: “You might have a BRCA positive breast cancer, or you might have a HER2+ breast cancer, or a triple-negative—and each of those has a different therapeutic intervention that has much greater efficacy because it ties back to some underlying core biology, which is different in different people."
A renowned computer scientist and executive, Koller is founder and CEO of insitro , a company using machine learning to improve the quality and speed of drug discovery. She joins us on Possible to share some of the ways AI and ML are already being used to help redefine diseases and create better therapeutic interventions. Plus, she shares her experience transitioning from academia to industry, raising several important questions about the developmental dance in AI between two very different cultures.

2 个月Machine learning is no doubt transforming the drug development process by speeding up discovery, enhancing accuracy, and reducing costs. By analyzing vast datasets and identifying patterns that would take humans years to find, machine learning is helping bring life-saving treatments to patients faster than ever before.
