Is it possible that a comment on a LinkedIn post ended up in a job offer?

Is it possible that a comment on a LinkedIn post ended up in a job offer?

Is it possible that a comment on a LinkedIn post ended up in a job offer?

The answer is ??

? Yes !

Let me share a real story from a former career coaching client that confirms that.

Let’s refer to my client as “A”. She landed a new job recently – starting on the 1st of July, 2022 – and it all started with a single comment on a LinkedIn post.

?? Around 1 year ago, A. wrote a very intentional and full of value comment on a post of someone that she didn’t know at the time, but that really resonated with her. She was genuine when writing her comment (on the post). A few minutes later, the author of the post sent her a connection invitation on LinkedIn, which she of course accepted, and they exchanged valuable messages from time to time for almost a year.

Recently, the person my former client had connected with asked her how she was doing in her career. She shared that she was searching for a #newjob , and her connection said something along the lines

“I know a client who is struggling to find people. Let me connect you with them”.

?? Long story short:

My former clients A. did a 1 hour #jobinterview with the hiring manager. It was a great conversation, and in the end, he said

“I really like your profile, let me check if we have any open positions that could match your profile”.

On the next day, A. interviewed for 30 minutes with another person from the company.

A few days later, A. received an email with her new contract, and an invitation for a new phone call with HR, to go over every single line of the work contract, and clarify any questions she could have.

?? No need to say that A. is extremely happy and excited with her new job, right?

?? What if you could learn from A.’s situation??

Let me share some of the highlights of this real story:

1?? When you comment on a post on LinkedIn in an intentional way and adding value, good things can happen – She wrote a comment that was so interesting that the author of the post immediately sent her a connection request.

2?? When you move on with the conversation instead of just connecting with the person, even better things can happen – A. could have stopped at the initial comment on the post, but she chose to keep engaging with the person for a full year.

3?? When you let your network know that you are open for a new #job , they automatically get involved in the process, and they can connect you with someone who is searching for a profile like yours – this is exactly what she did, via a #LinkedIn message, when the person asked how she was doing in her career.

4?? Referrals are real and effective. If someone puts you in contact directly with the hiring manager, you save time, skip all the initial steps of the traditional recruitment process and speak directly with the decision maker.

5?? When you take the time to prepare for a job interview, you significantly increase the chances of giving a positive impression – A. told me she was practicing out loud the interview replies and reviewing the notes from our sessions together the night before the interview.

?? Be creative when creating strategies for your job search in 2022.

Forget about just applying for jobs and waiting.

There is much more to be done.

Love it! What a great story. It really comes down to building relationships and knowing that relationships can begin with simple engagement. I have many great professional relationships and partnerships that started this way.

Small actions can bring amazing results! When you start engaging, connecting and getting our of your comfort zone, things start to happen. That applies to careers - like the real example I shared on the article - but also in other areas of our lives. Just go for it!
