Is it possible that African countries could have herd immunity against Covid 19 because of the previous use of Chloroquine to fight Malaria?
I know this is a very simple experiment and time will teach us the truth but I read about this potential miracle drug called Chloroquine. I know there are other factors like poverty, etc. having an influence but off the cuff I think there is something worthwhile looking into. I am not going to get into a huge debate about all the ifs and buts but let us see what the numbers tells us:
I derived this information from the following website: https://specialprojects.news24.com/coronavirus/
I summarized the results as follows:
>1000 confirmed infections: 4 countries with South Africa leading the pack at 1,686 cases and 12 deaths.
500 to 1,000 confirmed infections: 2 countries.
100 to 500 confirmed infections: 8 countries
<100 confirmed infections: the rest.
Interesting to note is that only the North-western parts of South Africa were exposed to Malaria; i.e. Northern KZN and Mpumalanga and were eradicated by the use of DDT in the days before it was banned.
