Positivity and Passion
With the outbreak of the virus, isolation and quarantine are helping protect the public by preventing exposure to people who have or may have a contagious disease. Whether in quarantine or not, anxieties are only worsened by confusion and social judgment as people try to figure out the appropriate response.
I have realized that keeping ourselves involved in something that we love can always help. Based on conversations with friends about this, an example of such an activity that can create a sense of change and purpose that really caught my mind was rearranging the furniture, which can help create stimulation. Offering to help others can help create a sense of community. Online groups to collect grocery or run errands can help those who are suffering the worst from isolation. As simple as it sounds, these activities are not ones that we get to be involved in during normal business days. However, during these times of self-isolation, with are having some more time than what we would generally expect during normal business days which is perfect for working on a Passion Project outside our daily work.
Having passion in whatever we do gives us the right amount of energy, motivation, and drive. However, not always does our daily professional work match 100% with our passion, as it is a commitment to the company we are working for and as part of a team, we need to be flexible and take up various roles. However, passion comes from within and can be cultivated through emotion that pushes us to get a firm anchor in what we are doing and augment our skills. We can work on something that gives us joy and light us up during this “strange time”. Passion projects also encourage us and help us work harder and push through days that are stressful or hectic.
Further, if we give off some part of ourselves and help others, it creates relationships and interactions that benefit others through our positive influence. The aura of our positivity creates a positive environment wherever we go. As positive energy is encouraging and powerful, it cultivates the same, and thus, through our passion, it can lead to success for ourselves, our colleagues, teammates and certainly benefit the company we work for.
I have started to consider this isolation and quarantine measure as a wonderful opportunity to work on my Passion Project. Currently, for me, it involves being a mentor to a friend who is in college and working with him on his academic project that relates to my field of interest. Spending time with the mentee, encouraging him, taking time out every 2 days to follow up on his progress is also keeping me up to date with the latest technologies that he is using in his work. “To teach is to learn twice”, and this is how I am also able to measure my skill level and improve where required.
In a nutshell, being passionate about our life and what we do makes us merrier and more productive at work, which helps us be more successful and everyone around benefits. Through these trying times, the world can use our passion and positive energy.
It is the time to find our passion, if not already known, and be joyful!
