The VIBE: Cy Wakeman posts the Holy Grail of business advice.

If you have been visiting LinkedIn looking for that one piece of business advice to catapult you into the stratosphere, Cy Wakeman posted it yesterday. She wrote “One of the best pieces of advice I have is to stay in your own lane. Focus on yourself - your development, your assumptions, your choices, and the actions you can take to improve. Resist the urge to point out how others are not stepping up. It will only slow your progress and compound negativity.”

I wish I was the one to say it. I wasn't, but I will continually share it, because it is that powerful and what makes it even more so is that you don’t need anyone else to do it, just you. By focusing on what you need to do, it also helps you focus on your strengths, and where they add value to others. I had someone asks me the other day, “Hey John, have you seen Nicole’s new video yet?” I hadn’t. “It looks like she is really going for it. When are you going to do videos?” I never begrudge my partner anything, but I can say that I never thought about doing videos because I don’t want to. My focus has always been working on writing as a skill to improve my skill at work. It is something that I enjoy. If Nicole is doing videos, I support her wholeheartedly and want her to succeed, but I am not going to do them. That’s not my thing. But I didn’t reflect on if she was doing them or what she was doing because I was focused on what I have been doing, where do I need to get better, putting my head down and doing the work.

No one can do that for you. You have to. And the best way to do that is to focus on it and do it. No inspirational memes, feeling, or sayings can make you crunch those numbers. So go ahead and do it – in your lane. Make good choices. Find the actions you need to take and then do them. Don’t worry about others, worry about you.
