The VIBE: You have permission to be curious.
This week, I got back into Excel again, but more in-depth than usual. A pivot table would have done the job, but not this time; this time required a bit more investigation, a bit more COUNTIFS. Now some of you out there will laugh and say, “Why is he writing about Excel again?” but others who love it like I do, who love its functionality, learning the new formulas, will appreciate the giddiness I have in writing this, on how setting up a spreadsheet with the correct formulas to benefit everyone, was obsessive, but downright enjoyable in the process; on how you can get lost in flow and look up and realize it has taken you hours that seemed to flow by in minutes – that sort of flow.
I didn’t do it for any other reason than it was a task that would benefit us, and I realized that’s the most important thing – it was there to do and it was enjoyable. And it was thorny. And I loved it. It gave me reason to get back into solving a problem. Which I enjoyed. Alone. I will be honest. I had no idea how it was going to turn out? But isn’t that the point? Y
ou never know when someone will say something that will connect you back to a piece of you that you lost, and through solving a problem, it reconnects you to who you want to be. As Goke says, “Making sense of life is hard…..it gives us permission to be curious. To imagine. To see potential in ourselves. Even in the real world, true genius knows that’s what it’s about.”
