Positive Push #4 - There's no such thing as perfection

Positive Push #4 - There's no such thing as perfection

I often hear people talk about how they're not "perfect", as if some were.

As if perfection was something that other people had.

But what does that even mean, to be "perfect"?

  • Does it mean that we have to do it all?
  • Does it mean that we have to show up every single time, even if we don't feel like it?
  • Does it mean we need to go over and over something until we achieve 'perfection'?

So I am asking you today,

are you pursuing the end goal of perfection or are you enjoying the journey?

In my previous job, sometimes it would take countless revisions until we published something.

As simple as a post.

Sometimes, we wouldn't even press publish, because you know, it was not perfect.

It would drive me crazy sometimes as I am very (maybe a bit too much ??) action-oriented.

Since I started my entrepreneurial journey, I learned how to embrace the "good enough" attitude, where I accept that it might not be 100% but at least it's there.

Each time I work on something, anything, it's an opportunity for me to learn and grow.

To give you an example, I had a "coming soon" website for about 6 months last year.

Nothing was coming out of it, because I kept comparing myself to other amazing websites where I was nowhere near achieving such results.

Then I got reminded that all companies out there started somewhere.

If you look at Airbnb or Facebook's first websites, it was honestly not that great.

But it was a start.

It might not always be a good start, but a start is a start.

Without it, you might never get feedback and a chance to improve.

It's a continuous process because there will always be room for improvement. ??

As I write these words, I was supposed to publish my interview with Benjamin Casteillo today.

But life got in the way, and even if I finished the story, I submitted it to him to review a bit too "last-minute".

So I decided to write about something else for today's newsletter.

Because I am not perfect.

And neither you are.

We are all humans after all.

With our amazing strengths and flaws.

So let's be kind to ourselves.

Because perfection simply does. not. exist.

Keep pushing ??

Alya

PS: I am curious to hear your thoughts, do you believe in perfection?

Since you made it this far, here is the picture of the first Airbnb website, in 2008 vs 2015. And now it's even better. ??

Thanks for sharing, it does resonate and should be a principle for all to acknowledge and assimilate. That there is always room to grow in our personal, professional and purpose driven lives, because where there is an upward climb in ones' journey, there is room for learning and hence constant improvement. We could be imperfectly perfect in our way forward towards goals, but never ever achieving perfection. To think we are perfect, we are limiting the boundless possibilities that life has potentially gifted us.

Indeed, perfection is not part of the human experience. We are designed to be imperfect and it's perfect like that, because that gives us the freedom to make mistakes and learn from them.
