Focusing on health and performance is critical for long-term success during significant transformations. Want to drive measurable progress on sustainable and inclusive growth in the societies where you operate? Start by changing yourself to be the best you can be.
There are seven activities that professionals should implement and track across their performance to fulfill their potential. We call these indicators "impact essentials".
The importance of an execution assessment
Aspiring professionals and top performers must embark on a significant transformation to maximise their execution readiness. A sound way to see the value of how positive change is possible is to examine the teachings of Fu Hsi, a Taoist sage.
His methodology gives us an innovative process for sound management and business leadership. Furthermore, his executive assessment breakthrough revolutionises mindsets to enable professionals to overcome unforeseen challenges.
His third principle career counsel is to advise concerned parties to be free from worry and anxiety. Next, he teaches how to quantify what is accurate from what you think is authentic. By doing so, he unleashes the fifth tactic, which builds on presence. "Presence" he underscores, guides people to make intelligent decisions.
The sixth "test" allows you to measure whether you are capable of living in the present moment. Pertinence, he calculates, enhances our agility and performance.
Difficulties arise when we refuse to recognise inappropriate behavioural patterns. His seventh tenet reminds us that "presence"?is not a concept. It is the practice of self-mastery.
Taoist masters understand this. So have many business leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs. To come to grips with presence, you must let go of your thoughts. Presence is not about words. It just is. What you gain in exchange is the transformation you seek.
Why practitioners see value in positive psychology and emotional intelligence
Behavioural psychologists confirm that when we transform ourselves and embrace an innovation mindset, we stand ready to meet challenges. Drawing from physics, we learn that "For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction." You can't get any more Newtonian about presence than this. What this demonstrates is that impact essentials bring you front and center. You can never con yourself because the Self can never be fooled. This is the eighth impact essential.
Putting impact essentials into play
According to the legend, Fu Hsi saw?I Ching?markings on the coat of a great horse. In a flash of inspiration, he understood the ninth impact essential: the markings symbolised mindsets grounded in presence.
So why is this impact essential so significant? The I Ching conveys emotional intelligence?rooted in both animate and inanimate objects. It has the power to let you lead a fuller and more meaningful life in tune with your true nature. "If knowledge is the key to freedom", to paraphrase Socrates, then it contains solutions to the riddles, social issues, and economic challenges we face. It gives meaning and purpose to our lives.

How impact essentials give us a contemporary framework
Positive Psychology doesn't change anything except the words the mind has dreamt up to convey?presence. Even scientists with their descriptions of quantum mechanics cannot surpass the mechanisms employed by the I Ching.
The tactics we can employ have many forms. For example, if we know how to earn a living, we are free from poverty. If we know how to keep ourselves healthy, we are free from illness. We are free from failure, suffering, and misfortune if we have sustainable careers. Controlling our destiny is something every human being has attempted from the beginning. The problem is that many have forgotten how to do this.
Confucius himself said, "If I knew these tenets years ago, I would have given 50 years to its study, thus avoiding all the stupid mistakes I made in my youth." Powerful words from another mastermind on navigating the intricacies of "interesting times".
Why the universal laws cannot be violated
The Rishis of India called impact essentials?"the laws of karma". They knew that manipulation could be destructive when trying to achieve less-than-noble goals. As one pundit cited, one definition of the term?"volatile"?means?to have the power to fly.
Life provides us with what one of my colleagues refers to as?"workout scenarios" to strengthen our character. Although the Tibetan master, Milarepa, did not use Harvard Business School case studies to teach, he found ample material in what he referred to as the?manure of life?situations. One of the impact essentials I love most comes from Lao Tse: "To know without knowing, to do without doing". He's telling us that you cannot go to Walmart and buy this in aisle five.
Presence demands nothing from us. There are no preconditions.
Will the nine impact essentials work for you??Yes, but only if your heart is sincere. The Self cannot be duped with any version of a three-card monte. Nobody can walk this path for you. Quick or slow is a choice you will make based on your awareness. This is why the sages?knew that truth was the only game in town. Accepting this or not is strictly up to you. Just remember that the universe could not exist at all unless it were in harmony with itself. Grasp this secret, and you are home free.
Reframing mistakes builds resilience. Remember, your future transformation lies in your hands. You stimulate the universe. In all circumstances, what you believe determines your actions. Your actions determine your future.
