Positive Psychology: Analyse Positive Behaviours
Andy McDonnell

Do we learn more from negative behaviours than more positive ones? In my work I still see too much analyse of incidents of challenging behaviour with people looking for triggers. In some senses they are over analysing crisis ridden situations. The same systematic approach can be applied to analysing the absence of these behaviours. Good periods of interaction without challenging behaviours need more analysis as it helps us to trully figure out whats working. If you are working with someone have a look at what you ask people to record and analyse, how much of the recording focuses on positive interaction?? Can you produce an analysis of positive triggers????

7 年Ooooh, you're at it again Andy!! I love it! Since hearing you talk about PERMA some years ago, I bought the book (flourish), read it twice, bought copies for friends and family and have let it influence my assessment and intervention work since. Thanks for reminding us that we need to balance our focus when it comes to understanding and supporting the amazing people that we do!!...oh and its pretty useful when it comes to working with staff teams too!

7 年I remember Gary LaVigna talking about the Million Dollar Question and applying that positively... “If I came to visit & promised you $1000000 to make sure the challenging behaviour didn’t happen, what would you do?”...
