Positive News in the Job Market

David Morgan July 2024

I don’t want to call it early - but is the cork out of the bottle of new vacancies?

Are you seeing green shoots in the job market?

The cork has been twisted at least and we have seen a marked increase in candidates celebrating new jobs than in previous months.

With just a few hours of July to go our new vacancies numbers are up 35% on June and 30% ahead of our monthly average for 2024 so far.

Surprising as it's July. It is no secret that hiring can be seasonal, and we factor holiday periods are slower as people have other priorities, well earned time off and kids school holidays to contend with.

This applies to hiring managers as well as candidate availability – historically clients will wait if they have the luxury of time.

With this in mind I was not expecting such a huge improvement in new opportunities so quickly after the General Election.

Are we suddenly more positive?

The job market is like a reverse game of musical chairs, adding seats when the music stops.

The “music” in this game is confidence and stability.

As these attitudes embed in organisations they are more likely to green light new hiring and start projects.

The increase in improved opportunities kickstarts the market and the process begins elsewhere as new vacancies are created.

The benefits of a thriving job market are well documented, personal development, quality of life, economic welfare, innovation and progress all depend on applying human potential and investing in the future.

So is the music going to start again in Half 2?

Has it started? What do you think?
