It is generally difficult to discern the opportunities that emerge from a crisis - whether local, national or even global. The reason is that the crisis does not usually arise on its own. It is always accompanied by uncertainty, a lack of information which often leads us to speculate on the negative effects which will result from it.
Don't let a virus named after a light beer take your moral down
After gathering as much erroneous information as possible, this state of uncertainty gives way to an insane claim to believe that we fully understand the ins and outs of this crisis. The Covid-19 crisis is no exception, especially when we see the movement of artificial panic in some countries. Ironically enough, according to several surveys, it seems that the majority of those questioned will seek their information relating to the effects of the virus on social networks, internet, television ... but not from their doctor.
Disaster scenario
Beyond the fact that not all media are qualified to deal with a public health crisis, our taste for the sensational and our devotion to Hollywood often leads us to imagine the most catastrophic scenario. In addition to this real public health problem which will probably affect hundreds of thousands people, we have created a social panic movement our of thin air. This panic and this ambient stress can be devastating for our economy, our society and even for you.
Does STRESS increases your chance to catch COVID-19?
When we are asked to wash our hands 24 times a day, to be careful where to eat, not to talk to anyone, anytime, anywhere, it is almost impossible for me ignore the baffling irony that comes out of this situation: We now know that the stress hormone in the human body is called cortisol. Many studies agree that an excess of cortisol has a negative impact on the immune system of the person experiencing stress.
So this begs the question whether the environmental stress that we have imposed on our society would in fact have the opposite effect: weakening the immune systems of thousands of people and thus making them more vulnerable to coronavirus?
In addition to all the precautions, we must take to avoid catching the virus, it would be important to educate society to keep calm and to lower their cortisol levels. For this we can use laughter, yoga, virtual social interactions, etc.
Opportunity
A few weeks ago, when I was just starting to hear about this new virus, I decided to call a friend who monitors infectious diseases at Memorial Hospital in New York City. The latter admitted to me that she had no idea how the virus would evolve - and it is precisely in this uncertainty that there may be hidden opportunities.
Online education
Knowing that, faced with this uncertainty, thousands of schools, universities and businesses were going to ask their employees, students, pupils, teachers and teachers to stay at home, it seems obvious to me that we must invest in a online education and online professional development. Beyond personal gain, we will witness extraordinary progress in the world of education in general.
In a previous article titled "The impact of Artificial Intelligence on the Job Market: an amazing opportunity for Professional Education" I explained why the education world needed to face a real crisis to change. This winter 2020 virus will surely be one of those indisputable engines that will propel traditional education into the era of the 21st century.
Local agriculture
More progress will be made in food distribution. We will have to eat more local products. The import and export of animals, fruits and vegetables will be subject to several restrictions. This will lead local farmers and farmers to produce more without feeling unfair competition from countries that massively subsidize their agriculture.
Seniors services
Since this virus particularly affects the elderly, anyone opening an elder care business will have no problem finding funds and clients. I invite you to share with me your ideas for entrepreneurial progress to face this public health crisis. Are there any candidates?
